Each card pairs a page with a word in kanji and the code that opens it. Flip through a shelf, stop on a card and scan it with your phone.
Masahiro Hara designed it at Denso Wave to track car parts on Toyota’s lines. The three corner squares, borrowed from the stones of a Go board, let a scanner find it from any angle.
Sketched by the artist Andrew Coulter Enright and bought by Apple, it arrived in iTunes 7: a music library you flipped through like a crate of records.
